Strawberry River Willow Planting – May 2021

High Country Fly Fishers and others joined forces with Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources and the US Forest Service on May 7 & 8, 2021 to plant 1,100 willows along the Strawberry River headwaters north of US Hwy 40. Our goal is to rehabilitate the river so it will maintain adequate water flow in late summer to allow the newly hatched, wild and native Bonneville Cutthroat trout to make their way from the spring spawning grounds to Strawberry Reservoir in the fall.

HCFF has been involved with DWR and USFS in ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the Strawberry River watershed for the last 15 years.  As funds have been raised, we have engaged in planting willows in many locations, including the Strawberry River along US Hwy 40, Mud Creek, Chicken Creek, and other locations around the valley.
