2025 Casting Clinic

Scouting America Troop #1262 Casting Clinic

HCFF is looking for volunteers to help teach fly-casting skills to scouts from
Scouting America Troop #1262. This clinic is a fun, hands-on opportunity to give back,
introduce young people to fly fishing, and represent HCFF in the community.

Volunteers will work with small groups of scouts during the afternoon and early evening, helping them learn basic casting techniques in a relaxed, encouraging environment.

HCFF will provide all fly rods and equipment.

What to Expect

  • Demonstrate basic fly-casting fundamentals (no advanced instruction required)
  • Offer tips, encouragement, and positive feedback to young anglers
  • Rotate through small groups of scouts with other volunteers

No prior teaching experience is required. If you can cast a fly rod and enjoy working with kids, you’re qualified. This is a great opportunity for members of all skill levels to volunteer.

Check out photos from last year.

Casting for Recovery – Volunteer Opportunity

Casting for Recovery is a nationally respected nonprofit that provides no-cost fly-fishing retreats for women impacted by breast cancer. These retreats combine outdoor recreation, peer support, and wellness programming in a supportive, welcoming environment.

This Utah retreat takes place over three days in September, and we are specifically seeking female volunteers for Friday, September 11 to assist with the on-the-water fly-fishing activities.

Why female volunteers are essential:
Friday is the primary fishing day, when participants work closely with instructors and helpers on the water. Female volunteers play a key role in creating a comfortable, encouraging atmosphere—helping participants with basic casting, line management, movement along the shoreline or watercraft, and general support throughout the day.

No advanced fly-fishing skills are required. If you are comfortable around the water, enjoy helping others, and want to be part of a meaningful and rewarding experience, you are well qualified. Instructional guidance and coordination are provided on site.

This is a unique opportunity to give back, connect with an inspiring organization, and directly support women during a powerful and positive experience in the outdoors.

The event coordinator will contact volunteers with specific details, timing, and expectations.

PhotographerS Needed

Photographs Needed

That’s right—PhotographerS—plural! High Country Fly Fishers is buzzing with too much action for just one lens jockey to handle!

So here’s the deal: If you’re at an HCFF event, congratulations! You are now officially authorized as a designated HCFF Photographer! No paperwork, no test—just the simple fact that you showed up with a phone in your pocket (which we know you did).

Whip it out, snap some shots, and capture the fun! Then email your best pics to admin@highcountryflyfishers.com
and we’ll get them up on the website for all to enjoy.

Whether you’re on the water, at the club meeting on the first Wednesday, a clinic, a party, or a fishout, we want to see what you see!  “A picture is worth a thousand memories!”

So don’t be shy—get those phones out and fire away! Let’s fill the HCFF site with memories for those who were there and make those who missed out wish they hadn’t!
