In the spring of 2016, HCFF member Mike Leigh was fishing the Middle Provo River and met Paula Trater. Paula works as the Provo River Restoration Project Biological Technician for the Utah Reclamation and Mitigation Conservation Commission. Paula was wrapping trees near the parking lot at the Cottonwood Access to protect the old growth cottonwood trees from additional beaver damage and to protect the parking lot from falling trees. Mike asked Paula if she could use some help.
Dave Tall was contacted by Mike and coordinated a day for the project with Paula. HCFF purchased a roll of 4×4 stock wire and rounded up about seven volunteers. HCFF members worked on the project for a couple of weekends and successfully protected about forty trees by wrapping the trunks with wire wrap and plastic fabric.
